TREK26 for Alzheimer’s Society
On Saturday 8th July 2023 at 06:25, Odette Drummond from Odette Funeral Director took on the challenge of TREK26 for Alzheimer’s Society.
A little saunter around the beautiful Brecon Beacons for this deserving charity. The little saunter was 26 miles and after training that was a bit hit and miss due to acquiring Plantar Fasciitis, she completed the trek in 10 hours and 58 minutes.
She said it would have been a bit quicker but she bumped into two lovely Dobermans named Dave and India, spending 20 minutes fussing the two furies and chatting to the owners!
If anything, it also took her mind off the 22 miles that she had already walked and the pain in her hips and back but gave her a much needed boost for the final 4 miles.
Odette is not one to shy away from challenges, competing in the London to Brighton bike ride in 2014, raising £650 for the British Heart Foundation and in 2016 she was off again, this time climbing Kilimanjaro for the British Heart Foundation, raising £5,106 in the process.
Asked why she chose Alzheimer’s Society this time, Odette said, “We have seen an increase in the families that we look after telling us about this dreadful disease and the effect on them and their loved ones and I decided that this would be the charity that I would support, in doing so
I have raised a total of £2,115 through sponsorship and with a big raffle that took place at Easter”.
Congratulations Odette and we will be keeping our eyes peeled for future challenges you’ll be taking part in.
